Which was followed by another equally amazing photo: The girls returned with an astounding photograph. After much begging, Elsie's father loaned her his camera. One summer day in 1917, the girls attempted to prove to their parents that they had seen said fairies. It was a lush, almost mystical place where one could almost believe fairies frolicked among the ferns. The two girls spent much of their time playing near a stream at the back of the Wright's property. There, Frances became quite close to her sixteen-year-old cousin, Elsie. While her father was serving in World War I, nine-year-old Frances Griffiths and her mother went to stay with the Wright family in Cottingley, England. ![]()
